Louis and Christine Colombarini

Louis and Christine Colombarini began to collaborate in the creation of clay vessels and sculptured forms over twenty years ago. Through the years they have taken their audience down visual avenues of classical, abstract, deco, futuristic, and neo-primitive design. Their current exploration involves two highly specialized directions: pit-fired copper wash technique (left) and straw fired pieces (right).

In 2008 Lous and Christine were selected as finalists in 2008 NICHE Awards for their collaborative piece entitled Long-Neck Vessel (below right).

Artist Statement:

Our fascination with Egyptian and Pre-Columbian artifacts; the delight of dogs, cats and the rural Tennessee life-style; along with our enduring romance with clay, are the important elements of our creative direction. These personal preferences provide a foundation of ideas in which we conceive our structural visions.
We enjoy the challenge of testing the sensitive physical limits of clay, by building precarious shapes and forms into stimulating and sound constructions. We strive to incorporate into our works subconscious themes of mystical imagery, curious symbols, and lyrical patterns.
There is a profound correlation between our completed works and the fragility of life itself. Our work reflects a common bond of earth and human spirit. Overall, it is our intent to stimulate the imagination, evoke a mood of pleasure, and share our intimate involvement; for art is sharing the vision of the soul.
