My studio is next to my home, tucked away in the corner of a small farm in Morrison, Tennessee. I am a one woman studio with a little help from my husband, Sammy, and for company I have three very small dogs. My work is a mix of altered thrown pieces, slab ware and hand built. Teapots are my favorite pieces to create and most have an Asian flair. I enjoy taking two or more thrown pieces and put them together to make them one unique shape. Only a few pieces leave the studio that have not been altered in some shape, form or fashion. |
| I work in white earthenware with dinnerware safe glazes. My glazes are very earthy in color with a look of stoneware glazes. |

My tile wall hangings are inspired by quilt patterns. The close-up of the tumbling blocks pattern shows the crystal glazes that I use to give me the look of printed floral fabric that I enjoy so much. Now and then I still have the desire to pick up a paint brush so in keeping with my love of ceramics I do murals for back splashes. I paint these with under glazes, then coat them in clear glaze, fire them, and then they are ready to be installed. |
| I took my first class eighteen years ago at the Appalachian Center for Crafts in Smithville, Tennessee. From an early age I have taken art lessons in every craft but glass and stuck with each craft for a few years (and I have an art closet to prove it) but after a few years I would feel that desire to try something new. The family was quite used to this so they were not surprised when I was at the Craft Center getting supplies for my weaving class and I thought the pottery looked like fun so I signed up for a six week night class. With the first class I fell in love with throwing pots. It took the family about ten years before they would agree that I had come to the end of my craft searching. |
