I started my career as a photographer but even in college I was working in wood making gifts for the family and furniture for the home. As the years went by my interest in wood has grown tremendously. About 1990 I attended the Tennessee Association of Woodturners annual symposium. This led to a deep passion for woodturning. I'm known for my line of turned hand mirrors but I'm always finding new things to create on the lathe and constantly trying to expand the boundaries of lathe based art. Many people have helped me along the way so I try to share my knowledge and skills by writing. I have had articles published in "More Woodturning", "American Woodturner", and the English publication "Woodturner". I am currently the tips editor for "American Woodturner". I frequently lecture to other clubs and teach a workshop each year at the Appalachian Center for Crafts in Smithville, TN. I am a member of the American Association of Woodturners, the Tennessee Association of Woodturners, and the Upper Cumberland Woodturners. Email: jlucas@tntech.edu, telephone: 931 858-2846 |
