Jim McGie is a one-of-a-kind Appalachian craftsman
who creates one-of-a-kind traditional family heirlooms. This master Heritage
Artist utilizes simple hand tools to produce rocking chairs, dough bowls,
rustic bark baskets, hand-carved spoons, footstools, benches, neck hauling
yokes, and guitar stands just as they were made in days gone by.
Jim's award-winning work is the centerpiece of many collections
including the permanent collection of Tennessee State Museum, and
is prized for the unique blend of art and utility. His pieces enrich
the lives of those who use them and will be cherished by generations
to come. Each piece is signed and dated. Rockers are given an identification
number as well and have a hand-rubbed finish.
His entertaining and informative demonstrations bring a glimpse back
to life as it was in the early Appalachian era. Demonstration information
is available upon request.
