TACA Highland Rim Chapter December 2004 Newsletter & Minutes
December 4 , 2004 Meeting Minutes:
- The Chapter met at Andrzej and Carol's home and enjoyed a potluck dinner after the meeting. In attendance were: Jeanne Brady, Margie Detring, Reed Detring, Noreen Grisolano, Andrzej Gutek, Tim Hintz, Merritt Ireland , John Lucas, Deborah Sam, Adele Seitzinger, Sarah Seitzinger, Joyce Sievers, Virginia Walker, Carol Ventura, and guests, Clark Hutton and Ilsy Ventura.
- Noreen reported that the Chapter had a bank balance of $1,287.62.
- Chapter officer elections took place:President: Tim Hintz
Vice-President: John Lucas
Treasurer: Noreen Grisolano
Secretary: Deborah Sam
Board Reps: Jeanne Brady, Tim Hintz, Adele Seitzinger, and Virginia Walker.- The board reps gave us an update on the retail space, the board changeover, and the upcoming elections.
- The members voted unanimously to donate $100 to Pacesetters to be put towards the costs of participating in the Folk Art Festival in Atlanta.
- Members suggested that an eMail mailing list be created (see next column).
- Virginia suggested that each meeting include a specific topic such as, “how to write a press release” (see May 21st meeting).Holiday Festival Highlighting the Highland Rim Chapter of TACA a great success!!!!
Thanks to Alec Slinde's talents at displaying and highlighting the quality and variety of our members' work the Highland Rim Chapter has a beautiful exhibit at the Craft Center. The show runs through January 4, 2005. A number of sales have already been made.www.finecrafts.org

- A group booth is possible for the Tennessee Crafts Fair in Nashville (only 5 members are required to have a TACA Chapter Booth). The cost per person is probably $25, plus a sales commission to TACA. If you would like to participate in the Highland Rim Chapter Booth, please come to the February meeting.Next Highland Rim Chapter Meetings:
- Saturday, February 5th , 11 a.m., at the Craft Center —Topic: TACA Spring Fair Group Booth.
- Saturday, May 21st , 11 a.m., at John Lucas' new home and studio—Topic: Margaret Shuster from the Herald–Citizen will share tips about press releases.
- Friday, September 16th , 5:30 p.m., at Merritt Ireland 's new studio in Cookeville (rbowden@twlakes.net).
- Wednesday, December 7th , 5:30 p.m. at Virginia Walker's studio.
The Southern Edition of the Art Fair Source Book can be seen at the Crafts Center Library and at the Alley Cat Studio at 715 East Spring St., Suite C, Cookeville (e-mail: acstudio@frontiernet.net).
There will be a TACA Marketing Workshop with Bruce Baker on March 19-20 at the Craft Center .

And what have YOU been up to lately? Submit your "news" to the Highland Rim Secretary.
- John Lucas was a demonstrator at the American Association of Woodturners National Symposium, July 23–25, 2004.
- Many Highland Rim members participated and were recognized at the Best of Tennessee Show, including Tim Hintz, who won Best in Show .
- This spring, Joyce Sievers will be teaching book art workshops for the New Orleans Lettering Arts Association and at the John C. Campbell Folk School.
- Virginia Walker's lampworked beads appeared on Talk of the Town .
- Carol Ventura published Kit-Cat Handbag in December's BeadWork; Tapestry Crochet Handspun Hats in Handspinners at www.handspinners.com/fall2004/carolv.html; and Brimming with Possibilities in December's Bead & Button.
