TACA Highland Rim Chapter May 2005 Newsletter & Minutes
Highland Rim Officers for 2005:
President: Tim Hintz
Vice-President: John Lucas
Treasurer: Noreen Grisolano
Secretary: Deborah Sam
Board Reps: Jeanne Brady, Tim Hintz, Adele Seitzinger, and Virginia Walker.
May 21 , 2005 Meeting Minutes:
The Chapter met at John Lucas' new home and studio–beautiful and flamingo–full. In attendance were: Cindy Billingsley, Jeanne Brady, Susan DeMay, Noreen Grisolano, Andrzej Gutek, Rob Harvey, Tim Hintz, Claudia Lee, John Lucas, Deborah Sam, Adele Seitzinger, Carol Ventura, Virginia Walker, and guest Mark Van Buren.
Brochures produced to advertise the TACA Retail Gallery were distributed. Until enough funds are raised, this project will go no further.
Noreen reported that the Chapter has a bank balance of $1,036.35.
Tim, Jeanne, and Virginia reported on the board meeting, including an update on the progress of the TACA website. A prototype is slated to be ready by the Fall Fair and the actual site up and running by Jan 2006.
Guest speaker Jesse Kaufman, Senior Vice–President/Creative at MMA Creative, informed and inspired the group both in concrete steps and on cultivating the mindset to “make oneself famous,” the best way to promote oneself. Jesse, members in attendance, and the chapter even got a press release and photo op out of the meeting.
The follow up to the discussion related to the Spring Fair Chapter booth are that Tim will report on the TACA issued instructions and that Mike Whiteman will be invited to future chapter booth meetings since he is knowledgeable and experienced with the nitty gritty.
Demo days at the Smithville Farmers Market on the Square. Tim introduced the group to a plan to educate the general public and himself and to increase exposure for himself and his craft. On the first Saturday of the month (except July), (7:00 a.m.–noon) he will do craft demos of some sort. Please feel free to join him in demonstrating your specialty. The only restrictions from the Market folks are that everyone clean up after him/herself and that the demo area not become a flea market.
Virginia suggested having some meetings in a more public place to attract and educate more folks. Critique meetings were also requested. At the next meeting, parameters and locations and times for critiques will be discussed, so think about what you need and how.
The chapter is looking for a venue to hold a group show. Please do some research on any place you know of and bring the information to the next meeting for discussion, even if the site is booked for a couple of years. If you are unable to come to the meeting, please either eMail the info to the list at Highlandrim–l@14850.com or contact Tim.
The Fall Fun Fest Craft/Art area will be organized by Mike again. We are inviting the other TACA chapters to have a booth. There will also be a Highland Rim group booth. Contact Virginia directly about this opportunity, even if you have already mentioned interest the day of the meeting. (Please call after noon–931-239-0711.)
