June 2008 Newsletter & Minutes

June 14, 2008: Andrzej opened the meeting and introduced us to the new Executive Director of the Tennessee Association of Craft Artists, Anne Shaw. The program was very informative. It was exciting to hear the plans for the future of TACA.

Treasurer's Report: The balance is $1.368.39.
TACA Chapter Booth report: Chapters will now be able to participate in both the Spring and Fall Fairs.
The HR web page www.finecrafts.org. As a member of the Highland Rim Chapter, you can have your own gallery page for free. Just send the pictures and info to Andrzej at agutek@tntech.edu. Member's pages can accommodate pictures up to 800 pixels/72 dpi. Jpeg is the best format, but all types of photos and prints are OK.
Next Highland Rim Chapter Meeting:
- Friday, October 10th, 6:00 pm; Carol & Andrzej's. Our guest/speaker will be Hans Knopfli, the author of several excellent books about the crafts of Cameroon.

- ArtDocs is a new organization in Nashville offering no-cost medical services for artists without health insurance. ArtDocs is looking for artists to submit works for its First Annual Fundraiser in Nashville. - The Tennessee State Museum is offering an alternative shopping experience for the holidays. Find more information from: renee.white@state.tn.us.
- Send photos of your work to Katie Haile at the TACA office to use for TACA publications and publicity.
- Contact the Nashville Airport at (615) 275-1614 for info about exhibiting or demonstrating through their Art at the Airport program.
- The Sergeant York Patriotic Foundation would like to cordially invite you to reserve a booth October 18th to promote and sell your crafts. The event is receiving significant exposure (posters in every Tn Welcome Center, an article will run in the Tennessean this weekend, Farm Bureau's Tn Home and Farm magazine, press releases, etc). We hope you can attend and benefit your business!
Highland Rim People in the NEWS:
- Cheryl Ludwig is demonstrating weaving at the Nashville International Airport through their Art at the Airport program.
- Tim Hintz taught a workshop in the wood studio at the Appalachian Center for Craft this summer.
- Susan Thornton was a faculty assistant for Betty Helen Longhi’s metals class at the Appalachian Center for Craft this summer. Susan will be demonstrating at the Thanksgiving Holiday Celebration at the Appalachian Center for Craft.
