November 14, 2009 TACA Board Meeting, report by Kim Winkle.
•New officers: President Pat Moody, Vice President Alf Sharp, Treasurer Reaneau Dubberly.
•Looking for new full-time executive director, hope to have the position filled by May 2010.
•Financial status is improving, becoming more stable but no real surplus. Had not drawn money from investments since January 2009, reduced internal expenses by more than $35,000.
•Have had success with major grants for FY2010, but fall fair sponsorship is severely down. Trying to strategize a comprehensive fundraising program.
•Membership has greatly improved, largely due to the efforts of the membership committee and Katie Haile; up by 20% overall. We, currently, have 66 members in our chapter and 541 current members overall. Tim Hintz is the new membership chair committee.
•Fairs have been a disappointment due to weather, however with the change to Zapplication artist entries were up by 30% over 2008. Fair profit of $43,000.
•TACA is very excited about the collaboration with Tennessee Arts Commission in offering the new Master/Apprentice program. Two of our members, Claudia Lee and Jessica Jones, were recipients.
•Board development training has begun and will be an ongoing initiative, this will occur at the upcoming TACA board retreat, which will be held at Lakeside Resort Feb. 6-7. This will help educate participant of their role as a TACA board member and how to become more involved.
•MTSU will host the 2010 TACA Biennial Exhibition. 2012 is in the works. Possible venues include: ETSU or UTK.
•Technology committee is starting 1st phase of the website overhaul. Looking to improve current technology at the main office. Hope to install or research options for an online TACA sales gallery.
•Diversity committee. Trying to increase diversity throughout the organization.
*Chapter Accounting changes: The TACA office needs chapter bank statements/expense sheets/chart of account before the 15th of each month for their accounting purposes. Please, include donors too.
•Voted for local executive committee board members to be able to sign checks.
*No corporate sponsor at Fall fair. Try to find new sponsors.
•Long discussion regarding moving the TACA fair indoors. Research is being done regarding the viability/possibility/logistics of making this change.
•Discussion was made of whether or not to include “Fine Art” at the fairs. This could potentially be at conflict with TACA membership and, therefore, affect funding.
•TACA retreat Lakeside resort Feb. 6 and 7.
