Board report (Kim Winkle):
Board retreat moved to ACC TACA is volunteer based board and they get together to brain storm and formulate ideas
to improve TACA as an organization – more visible and stronger to promote and educate people on craft.
4 main goals to work on: 1. Website needs improving and got grant to work on that. June 15 deadline for first phase 2. Education/workshops for TACA members 3. Pick TN products – get TACA listed on that 4. East TACA chapter revitalized since is non operational right now 550 members in TACA – 41% 56 – 65 years, 25% craft fairs primary source of income, 90% Caucasian. Talked about adding The Lost Boys in chapter and other ways to increase diversity. Craft report magazine available for members at no charge but must contact Katie Haile about it. Board members were trained how to read fiduciary reports so can take responsibility for how funds are distributed and other responsibilities of each position. Trying to train the board so they can bring information back to the members and make the chapter members more a part of the organization. Members need to take responsibility for voicing concerns to the board. Search Committee: Executive director being sought and interviewed a lot of people on phone. Hope to have position filled by end of May. Need new Ex director because Bill Mullins is ready to retire. He is doing job at reduced rate to fill in until someone is hired. Fair Committee: ad hoc committee researching possibility of inside venue because if issues with weather over past few years. Also looked at different areas of park that might now flood and be more shady. Increase food vendors and have music in spring. Biennial exhibition: Had one a while ago at State Museum. Going to have one at MTSU in September so look for something calling for entries. Financial report: reorganize finances by selling out of volatile market and go into something more stable so will cut losses even if don’t have as much profit. So will use CDs and money market funds. Need to increase donors, sponsorships and members to help with funding. Encourage everyone to purchase specialty license plates for cars because the money goes to the arts. Summer board meeting will be moved out of Nashville to encourage people to come. Anyone can come even if they can’t vote. Meetings are scheduled for 5/6, 8/21, 11/13. |
